Causes

  1. On a rigid-tap cycle the milling spindle never starts and Alarm 133 fires. The Tool Data 'holder type' setting being on 'fixed' for a rigid holder on Matrix 2 has been seen to suppress spindle start — switching to 'floating' allowed the cycle to run. (Other operators report 'fixed' is correct on their identical machine; Mazak tech said both are normal — likely a control option / parameter.)

It should run perfectly fine with the fixed tap option. Mine does and it's the same machine and control.
  2. Generic cause from the Mazak manual entry: spindle rotation did not start when the rotation command was issued in auto operation; check the spindle amplifier and encoder.

    • quoting the Mazak manualforum
Alarm 133 - STOP SPINDLE. Cause: Spindle rotation did not start when the spindle rotation start command was issued during automatic operation. Action: The spindle amplifier and the encoder must be checked for normal oper…

How to clear it

  1. 1

On Matrix 2 Integrex: open the Tool Data page for the offending tap, toggle holder type between 'fixed' and 'floating' to match how Mazak Tech configured your specific machine. Confirm spindle starts in single-block dry run before resuming.

    • Goboforum
I changed it to "floating" and it works like it should. Just another one of those non-intuitive Mazak things.
  2. 2

If the toggle does not resolve it, check the spindle amplifier and encoder per the manual.

Additional notes

Operators disagree on whether 'fixed' or 'floating' is the correct setting on identical Matrix 2 Integrex machines — likely an installed-option difference. The reliable diagnostic is to flip the setting and see if the spindle starts.

Confidence: medium · Two PM operators on identical Matrix 2 Integrex hardware report opposite correct settings. The fix (toggle holder type) is well-attested but the 'why' is not.
