Mazak Quick Turn

Mazak's mainstream 2-axis turning workhorse

Day-in, day-out production turning. The first Mazak most shops buy and the family I've programmed and trained on more than any other.

What the Quick Turn family is

The Quick Turn family is Mazak's volume turning line — 2-axis chuckers and bar machines with optional milling (C-axis, Y-axis) and sub-spindle variants on the larger models. When someone says "Mazak lathe" without qualifying, they usually mean a Quick Turn.

The line has been through several generations since the 1990s: the original QT, then QT-Nexus in the mid-2000s, then QT-Smart, QT-Compact (smaller footprint), QT-Ultra (heavier built), and the current SmoothAi-controlled machines. The conversational Mazatrol unit logic stayed roughly the same across generations — the screens and simulation got better. A programmer who learned Mazatrol on a QT-200 with T-32 transitions to a QT-250 with SmoothAi faster than they expect.

Where Quick Turn ends and Slant Turn / Integrex begin: Quick Turn is the right answer for normal-sized parts in volume. If the work is bigger or needs heavy interrupted cuts, look at Slant Turn / SQT. If the part needs full milling work (B-axis, complex 5-sided machining), look at Integrex.

QT-10

1990s–2000s

Small chucker — 8" chuck range

Controls: T-32, T-Plus

Older entry-size Quick Turn. Plenty still in production shops; the parts library and tribal knowledge are deep.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 10, qt 10, qt-10

QT-15

1990s–2000s

Controls: T-32, T-Plus

Mid-range chucker from the same generation as the QT-10. Same control family, larger work envelope.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 15, qt 15, qt-15

QT-20

1990s–2000s

Controls: T-32, T-Plus, Matrix

One of the most common Quick Turns on shop floors. Frequently seen with the T-32 control.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 20, qt 20, qt-20

QT-200

2000s–2010s

Controls: T-Plus, Matrix, Matrix Nexus

Workhorse mid-size. The QT-200 platform is where many shops first paired Mazatrol with a useful 3D simulator (on Matrix-generation controls).

Also searched: mazak quick turn 200, qt 200, qt-200, qt200

QT-200MSY

2010s–present

Controls: Matrix, Matrix Nexus, SmoothG

Multi-tasking variant — M (milling C-axis), S (sub-spindle), Y (Y-axis). Completes the part in one cycle for the right family of jobs.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 200msy, qt-200msy, qt 200 msy, qt200msy

QT-250

2010s–present

Controls: Matrix, Matrix Nexus, SmoothG, SmoothAi

The current-generation mid-size chucker. The single most common Mazak lathe on US shop floors I work on right now.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 250, qt 250, qt-250, qt250

QT-250MSY

2010s–present

Controls: Matrix Nexus, SmoothG, SmoothAi

Multi-tasking QT-250. M + S + Y. Where you graduate to when your part needs milled features behind the chuck or you're tired of running parts across two machines.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 250msy, qt-250msy, qt250msy, qt 250 msy

QT-300

2010s–present

Controls: Matrix, Matrix Nexus, SmoothG, SmoothAi

Larger work envelope than the QT-250. Same control family.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 300, qt 300, qt-300

QT-350

2010s–present

Controls: Matrix Nexus, SmoothG, SmoothAi

Big-end Quick Turn. Beyond this and you're shopping Slant Turn / SQT for the rigidity.

Also searched: mazak quick turn 350, qt 350, qt-350

QT-Nexus (series)

Mid-2000s–2010s

Controls: Matrix, Matrix Nexus

The Nexus generation was the bridge between the older T-32 / T-Plus QTs and the modern Smooth-controlled line. "QTN" is shorthand.

Also searched: mazak quick turn nexus, qt nexus, qtn

QT-Smart

Late 2010s–present

Controls: SmoothG, SmoothAi

Cost-positioned Quick Turn with the Smooth control. Right answer when you want SmoothG ergonomics without the QT-250 / 350 price.

Also searched: mazak qt smart, quick turn smart

QT-Compact

Current

Controls: SmoothAi

Smaller footprint. The shop has 10 feet of floor space, not 20.

Also searched: mazak qt compact, quick turn compact

QT-Ultra

Current

Controls: SmoothAi

Heavier built than a standard QT — bigger spindle bearings, more rigidity. Right for heavier interrupted work without stepping up to Slant Turn pricing.

Also searched: mazak qt ultra, quick turn ultra

Controls that shipped on Quick Turn

Across generations, these are the Mazatrol controls you'll find on a Quick Turn. Older controls are harder to get parts and programmer support for; newer ones have the modern simulator and unit logic.
